To enter the UK, you must have filed the ETA UK.
To enter CANADA, you must have filed the ETA CANADA.
To enter the European Union, you must have filed the ETIAS.
They are different. Here is what you need to know.
ETA UK - Effective January 8, 2025
An Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) is required for certain nationalities who want to visit the UK for short stays of up to 6 months, including for tourism, family visits, business trips, or short-term study. It's a digital permission to travel and is electronically linked to your passport. You can apply for an ETA online on the GOV.UK website or through the UK ETA app.
You can expect up to three days to get an ETA.
IMPORTANT: If you are transiting the UK and your flight is cancelled, you will not be able to leave the airport and pass through border control without an ETA
ETA - CANADA
The least expensive ETA currently available is for Canada, which charges just CAN$7 when applying through the official Government of Canada website.
The least expensive—and official—way to apply for an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) for England is directly through the UK government’s website or the UK ETA app. The cost is £16 per person, and that covers multiple entries over a two-year period (or until your passport expires, whichever comes first).
Be cautious of third-party services that may charge extra fees for “assistance” or faster processing. Unless you're in a rush and willing to pay more, the standard application is quick and straightforward for most travelers.
ETA - CANADA vs ETA - UK
Canada’s ETA and the UK’s ETA are entirely separate systems. A Canadian ETA only allows entry into or transit through Canada, not the United Kingdom.
If you're heading to England, you’ll need to apply for the UK ETA, even if you already have a valid Canadian ETA. The UK ETA is required for eligible travelers—including Canadians—starting from January 8, 2025, and it costs £10 per person.
