DISTILLED WATER

In general, if we ask in advance, riverboats with place distilled water in the stateroom.

On the Tauck ms Andorinha, the best approach is to request distilled water in advance through Tauck’s guest services. While Tauck doesn’t explicitly list CPAP support on their website, travelers on Tauck forums have shared that the company is responsive to special requests like this.

Here’s how to make sure you’re covered:

  1. Contact Tauck ahead of time – Email or call their reservations team and ask them to note your need for distilled water in your booking. They may be able to have it waiting in your cabin.

  2. Ask onboard if needed – If you forget to request it in advance, your cruise director or cabin steward may be able to help source some locally or from the ship’s supply.

EXTENSION CORD

Also, in many cases, the 120AC plug is across from the bed where I place my CPAP machine. Many riverboats do not permit extensions cords. Nevertheless, I bring and use an extension cord for my ResMed. I show it only at night when I need it.

Each riverboat cabin has at least two 110 V outlets to accommodate U.S. standard plugs. All other outlets are 220 V, 50 Hz, alternating electrical current that accommodate standard European plugs with two round prongs. To use these outlets you may need to bring the appropriate adapters and converters. The riverboat has a few adapters available for borrowing.

IRONS, HAIRDRYERS, CURLING IRONS, etc.

Scylla (our Andorinha riverboat) does not allow guests to use any type of 110-volt  irons, hairdryers, curling irons, hot rollers, hair straightener, or any other type of heating devices on  our riverboats. Even when converter is used, there can still be damage to either the device or the electrical system on the riverboat.

Hairdryers are available in all cabins, and irons upon request (they are standard in Suites - Cat 7 or Cat 5 on the Andorinha). There is no issue with small dual-voltage electronic items such as laptops, smart phones, and tablets. Guests may use 220-volt (European) heating devices on board.
